Bournemouth, England is situated in County Dorset, southwest of London. It is a famous coastal recreational town, with tourism and the service sector contributing the maximum to its economy. Visitors from all over the country and abroad swear by the facilities available to each and every tourist, whatever their budgets. A 2007 survey found the town to be the Britain’s happiest place, though that position had changed drastically in 2008, possibly due to the recession! More than anything else, Bournemouth is famous for playing host to a number of famous personalities many of whom lived, worked and died there – either as permanent (or semi – permanent) residents or as very regular visitors.

They included Robert Louis Stevenson, Oscar Wilde, J R R Tolkien, Mary Shelley, among others, all of whom have contributed to Bournemouth’s culture. References to the town appear in works by Thomas Hardy, Roald Dahl, James Herbert and Andy McDermott. Bournemouth University is justifiably famous. The town is one of the few in England where surfing on the sea (as opposed to net surfing) is a regular activity.

Although Bournemouth has a long history as a regional recreational, leisure and entertainment centre, it constantly needs to promote itself, both to the world at large and also to local businesses, groups and even individuals. There are a number of alternate ‘leisure and recreational centres’ in relative close proximity, such as Brighton, Southampton, etc. With the power of the internet this promotion can be easily arranged, though there are also challenges.

Typing in the key words on Google or Yahoo or any other search engine will immediately take you to the information you want to access. However, there is no guarantee that the web sites of the businesses, organisations, etc. you have on the screen are the most appropriate ones for you.
