The first and most important thing is for a webmaster to focus on having relevant content to whatever keyword/keywords they want to rank well for. This sometimes by itself is enough to rank in the top ten if the content is innovative and well written. The next step is for the webmaster to add and add content whether it is to a site, blog, or whatever they own. When you update your website with new content Google will think it is innovative, new, fresh which makes all the difference between you and your competitors. You do not want a dead lifeless website that has not been updated for months. If you have not updated in years and wonder why Google dropped you rewrite some of the content and update you will be amazed to see your traffic rise as well as serps position.
Backlinks are also a major factor when you are trying to rank well for a certain term. If you follow this article and begin creating fresh relevant content daily you will see a decent amount of traffic. If you add good quality backlinks to this equation that you are building on a daily basis then before long you will see top ten position for whatever keyword you want to rank well for. The key for backlinks is to constantly seek out relevant, high authority, one way backlinks. When you find these types of backlinks you will see yourself gaining enough traffic to support yourself full time online. The only problem is these are extremely difficult to find and you should be searching on a daily basis, but with enough research and effort you will be able to find enough to do very well online.
