Author Bio Box Mistakes Exposed: 46% Of Authors Bomb Their Article Marketing Efforts.
Are you reducing your article marketing success? I have recently examined current resource box mistakes on a popular article directory. Are you one of the 46% of article marketers whose resource box flops?
There are lots of instructions on how to write an article, how to submit articles and even down to how to format it and what to include in your resource box. Writing articles and article marketing are very popular online promotion tools.
With all this information is so easily available, would it surprise you that lots of article authors still make common resource box mistakes and impair their article marketing efforts?
I called in the front page of EzineArticles where the latest published articles are shown. There are about 75 articles to go for. I wasn’t really scientific – I closed my eyes and opened 15 recently published articles at random.
EzineArticles a really popular directory to publish your article and I found that article marketers were writing articles on topics ranging from talking with angels to getting your ex back. I was quite surprised at the range of topics plucked at random, there was no repetition of topic.
Aproximately half of the author resource boxes just were not up to the task. 46% of articles chosen showed that common resource box mistakes are still sadly evident.
With hundreds of articles published every day, fifteen articles is a trivial sample size. A quick examination can not possibly make an perfect conclusion on all articles published. But, these were the most recent publications and it illustrates the the aim of this post – just under 50% of the recent article writers were not getting the best out of article marketing.
Let’s inspect the results a little more closely.
Common Resource Box Mistake #1 – The Ego
The major goal of writing articles is to get the reader to click through your link in your resource box. When people read your article, they don’t care who you are, what you do or what your qualifications are. They just want to know can you answer their question and how can you aid them right now.
So, if you have to put in your personal information for branding purposes, do it AT THE END OF your initial call to action. Why get people pumped up about your product or service to then put a mental block or stop sign in front of them before they click your link?
Of the article sample taken, 20% of authors stroked their ego first.
Common Resource Box Mistake #2 – Irrelevant Links
A classic resource box mistake! I think a lot of this is down to default author resource box options. It is important to check and correct your default author bio before you publish your article. Even if you think your author bio is relevant, stop and think like someone who will read your article.
If they find your article for your guidance on how to paint a wall then the reader is not searching for a general DIY site link. They’re searching for details on how to paint their wall. So let them know where to get hold of the facts about painting walls.
The worst author bio mistake in this class though, has to be totally irrelevant links. You’ve just spent a few hours in your day writing articles about kitchen furniture. Why would the people reading want to find out about your skiing site? Your time and theirs has just been wasted.
Of the article samples taken, 20% of writers did not include relevant links in their bio box.
Common Resource Box Mistake #3 – No call to action
The main aim in writing articles is to give people information they’re looking for and to tell them where to get more i.e. go to your site. Yes, give them a call to action, TELL your readers to click on your link.
Of the article samples taken, 6% of authors did not include a call to action in their resource box.
