Basic Link Building Tactics

The most common aspect of being a webmaster or blogger which people have trouble with is link building. As the number of websites in every niche on the web grows and grows Google and other major search engines struggle on determining which websites are the most important and should be ranked high in the SERPs (search engine result pages). Backlinks mixed with fantastic content which is constantly updates will help you website rank on the first page of Google for whatever keywords you want to rank well for. Depending on the competition ranking for a keyword can range anywhere from a couple months up to a couple years for the most competitive term. On average though you should be able to reach the top of Google for a moderately competitive term in about six months if you work every day creating content and backlinks. Reaching the top of Google is the key if you want to make money online.

There are thousands of different places to gain backlinks the problem is the majority are not worth very much and either have the no follow attribute or a redirect which makes the backlink pretty much worthless. To gain good quality do follow backlinks the best place to start is with free directory submission. Personally I use directorycritic.com they have a free general directory list of about 2 thousand and it is important to submit to all the free directories not just a couple hundred. Directories have low authority usually unless you get accepted into dmoz or yahoo, but in most cases the link will only help on a small amount. To see directories really help out you must submit to thousands. One really good thing about directories is they usually take a while before your site is accepted so the links will be built slowly rather than all at once.

Article writing and submission is another great way to build backlinks. You write an article then submit it to a popular high traffic directory not only will you get traffic and backlinks directly from the article directory you will also get traffic from the websites and blogs that publish your article. The article directories I use the most are ezinearticles.com, articlesbase.com, isnare.com, and buzzle.com. All of these article directories have a page rank above 5 and I have seen good traffic from them all. Don’t expect to see huge results after your first article you may get a few hits and a couple backlinks the key to success is writing one article a day and submitting to these directories over the course of a couple months then you will begin seeing much better results. These two types of link building make up the majority of what I do there are other ways such as forum posting, blog commenting, blogging, guest posting, writing press releases, and social marketing (good traffic but mostly no follow links). The important point I would like to make is be sure to build a foundational link base using free directories and article directories then when you have submitted your link to the majority of article websites and general directories seek out some of the other link building methods I have described.
