SEO Lesson – How To Comment Effectively On Blog Posts

Welcome to this edition of SEO training tips. Let’s take a look at blog commenting.

We should begin by noting that blog commenting is not just an SEO technique. If you look at it that way, you are probably being a spammer and not as effective as you might be. Here are five goals that every blog commenting marketer should have top-of-mind.

1) Build reputation
2) Draw traffic from the blog readers
3) SEO link-value
4) Build relationship with the blogger
5) Displace some other, more boring link-building methods

But which blog posts should you comment on?

RELEVANT: A relevant blog post – one that is related to your website topic and preferably to the keywords you are targeting – is ideal.

HIGH PR: A high PageRank for the post, or at least for the home page is a good idea. Failing that, some other sign that the blog is well-read and well-linked to (number of RSS subscribers, number of backlinks to the domain, etc.)

DOFOLLOW: It is always better to get a DoFollow link than a NoFollow link. But don’t get too picky on this point. NoFollow links still count and real people still read comment son NoFollow blogs (and real people are the ones you need to see your website, visit, and decide it’s worth linking to from their own website).

INTEREST: Don’t discount a topic that interests you – even if it is not relevant, is low-traffic or low PR and is NoFollow. If you love Civil War history., comment on the topic. Your comments will be better quality, you will get human visitors to your website, the link still counts for SEO and it will feel more like play than like work.

But what should you say? Here are a few guidelines.

Be specific. A vague comment make it look like you’ve cut-and-pasted a comment into the comment field – the same comment you’ve cut-and-pasted into the comment field on dozens or hundreds of other blogs.

Make it clear you’ve read the post. Make sure your comment addressed something in the post of in another commenter’s comment. If your comment is generic about the topic, it might not be seen as part of the conversation by the blogger, and it could be deleted.

Add value to the discussion. Even if you are very specific and refer to part of the post, your comment might not add value. “Me too” comments, or other fluff that adds no value might not be approved, even if it’s not spam.

Keywords in name. This is a touchy subject. Like every social situation, watch what others are doing. If this is the first time commenting on the blog, err on the side of being more human, less SEO. A frequent commenter might get away with calling himself “Andy @ Cheap Hotels”, but a newcomer doing the same thing might be seen as a spammer.

Proper English: If you can’t write well in English, A) hire someone who can, or B) Comment on blogs of your native tongue. Bloggers don’t want mangled comments on their blogs.

Just for fun, here are a few examples of unedited comments deleted from an associate’s blog because they were considered too spammy (Each paragraph is a separate comment for a separate person):

I agree with you and it is correct and this article really written with good techniques. And this is to much correct that seo is like a game where we always play to win our competitors. Thanks to yuo for share yuor views with us.

Why RSS Marketing Is Great For Your Weblog

The aim of the RSS is to allow frequent site visitors of your site to read pertinent updates by simply subscribing to its RSS feed. It is convenient, particularly because it eliminates the necessity to access a site and sort through the contents.

Will RSS advertising work on your weblog? The fact that individuals still subscribe to RSS feeds is evidence that it does work nicely. In reality, you will most likely notice that many more people subscribe to a website or blog that offers RSS feeds than those who do not. To utilise RSS advertising with your blog efficiently, the trick is to write compelling summaries of content found in your site and use that for the feed. A feed containing full text, as an example,, might fail to generate interest in the ads as the usual purpose of the subscriber is principally to read the content.

Using a feed as a full advertisement can flop, since visitors generally dislike being bombarded by ads. Some bloggers who draw on RSS advertising, for example, exploit a full feed as an ad every 10th to 12th post. Their users still receive the meaty feeds that they like but additionally get subjected to ads the blogger is promoting. If this is how you think that RSS marketing can work for your blog, try experimenting with various approaches, such as combining great content with related ads. That way your readers don’t have to think that the post is nothing but a way to make them execute an action or spend cash for something.

Let us consider how crucial advertising is to blogs, sites and yes, even RSS feeds. Due to income generated from advertising, websites and everything else that supports them from website marketing software makers to hosting services, continue to be existent. Advertising provides support for sites offering us pertinent content, including those found in RSS feeds. With no advertising, lots of websites and providers may possibly find it difficult to pay cost related to generating content.

So where will RSS advertising’s place be in your weblog? Continue to exploit it. You owe it not just to your advertisers and sponsors who’ve been helping you meet the cost of maintaining your site but additionally to your readers who, without your ads, may not be able to access your content.

In summary, are you utilizing RSS feeds at your site yet? If not, then you are missing out on a quantity of truly incredible benefits. By using RSS feeds on your website, you may get more visitors to your site, increase your profits and get a higher position within the search engines. If you market using Twitter, you can use RSS feeds to show your own personal tweets on your web pages – providing unique content and getting many more Twitter followers. You can also use income producing RSS feeds from eBay and other sources, to provide regularly updated content and make earnings at the same time.

Just What Is A Blog And What Can You Do?

A weblog is basically a easy web site, even though heaps are far from simple these days! Originally blogging started as writing an online journal to share with people, but these days they have evolved and a site is anything you really want it to be. It could be a journal of what you are doing and plan to do or it could be you sharing your thoughts about anything that you want. You might be talking round events that affect your business or you may be providing help and advice to your readers. You might even be reviewing latest products, films or publishing discount discount codes. A website can be anything that you want it to be.

A site typically uses specialist web site creation tools, which makes the process of blogging very simple. Though, if you prefer, there is nothing to stop you writing your own blogging system. But there are so many excellent blogging tools on the internet, mostly available for free, that there is unquestionably no need to write your own or even pay for a tool.

When you start blogging you write a some text and post this to your blog. Therefore, a new entry is known as a post. You can normally also assign categories and tags to each post. These identify related posts by putting all of the same themed posts into the same category, or tag. Each post could fit into as numerous categories and tags as are relevant to it to help readers and search engines find their way around your weblog.

A blog will normally display the latest posts on the home page so that search engines and regular readers might quickly see what is new and read that without having to explore the entire website. As well as these posts living on the relevant category and tag pages, plus their own page, they will also be indexed on an archive page based on the date their were submitted, frequently down to month level.

It is this breathtaking cataloging, that takes place automatically, that makes sites so welcomed by the search engines and regular readers alike. And because they are so simple to use, anyone might quickly have a well organised website in minute. But, there are also other tricks let’s say Pings, which notify search engines that a new post has been written and RSS (Really Easy Syndication) that allows readers to see what you have recently written without having to visit the website!

So what do you need to do to start blogging? The first step is to set up your website and then after that you merely write regular posts. How long they are, whether they have images, graphics or illustrations and how as a rule you write is entirely up to you, There are no restrictions as to what you need to do – it is your site, so do with it as you like!

Really Simple Syndication Is A Truely Tremendous Means To Receive Traffic

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Feeds are a quick and easy way of sharing information on your site. But, how do they work and how might they create more visitors to your website? Well, there are 2 ways of using RSS feeds and each one gives slightly different traffic generation, so I’ll look at them separately.

Existing Readers
If you are visiting another website that you find really interesting, you might want to make sure that you might keep going back to find the latest information. As for instance, it might be your preferred news web site or a website with really amazing information.

But how do you quickly and straightforwardly check a few websites for the latest updates, especially news websites that probably do not always have the latest item as the lead item? Well this is where RSS feeds come in – you might subscribe to the feed in whatever feed reader you want. As for instance, in Firefox you would just drag the feed item to the tool bar and a new feed is create. By clicking on the feed the latest entries are shown. If any take your interest you click on them to read them.

So for present readers, RSS feeds are a way of getting the latest information off web sites that they like to visit quickly and easily. So by having an obvious RSS feed that they might subscribe to, you are making sure that people could keep coming back to your site every time you post an interesting new piece of information. You are driving visitors direct to your new pages – traffic that has already visited your website and built confidence in you.

RSS Feeds For Web-sites
But this is just getting current traffic back. Whilst vital and high quality visitors, you also want to generate new visitors to your website and RSS feeds can also do this. Several website owners are looking for content and so they will also use the RSS feeds to grab your latest work and place the articles on their websites, regularly with links back to your site. This means that people visiting these other websites and reading your posts there might then pop more than to your site if they find something interesting.

Obviously, this works best when you allow the RSS feed to syndicate the full content of the post. Some people like to only syndicate a summary for protection of their content, in fear of having it stolen, but others are happy to share it in the hope of increased traffic. It is your site and really it is up to you, and your experiences, whether you allow it.

So that is what RSS Feeds are round – building more traffic to your website quickly and simply by sharing the content that you are creating with readers and other web-sites. Be certain that that your RSS Feed is simple to find so that people could use yours and start to build your visitors with them today!

Could You Use A Banner Advertisement On Your Weblog?

Might you use a banner advertisement on your blog to generate an income? By that we mean can you use one to increase your income? There’s a big difference between something that adds to the total revenue you make and something that makes an revenue itself, but costs you more visitors and income from elsewhere.

Free sites
So, can you add a banner advertisement to your site? Of course you could, usually! If you are some free services, for example WordPress.com (but not the WordPress.org that you host for yourself) then such forms of advertising are banned, so the answer is “No” and the debate ends here!

Other sites
But for other systems you are allowed to add banners, either in the sidebar, the footer or within the actual post. However, do you really want to?

At first the answer must be “Yes!” and there is a chance of earning an income, whether from an advertiser’s payments of from affiliate payments. But now look deeper into this and whether they are actually effective. That is, whether you are actually making a profit. If you use that space for a banner advert, what are the effects?

Too much is never good!
Well for a start, too much advertising about the page is going to put people off reading your site. It makes the blog look like you are merely interested in your readers for what they might do for you – earn you money. This makes them less prospective to subscribe to your RSS feeds and newsletters and less possible to trust your writing and come back.

Using valuable space.
It is also taking up valuable space. To get the best from a banner advertisement you want it high up on the side bar – so that stacks of people can see it and click on it. But this will mean that you have to shove the vital pieces of navigation further down the page. These are the navigation elements that will be used by readers to come back again or find more to read now, let’s say most popular posts lists,RSS feeds , ebooks as incentives to subscribe and so on. By having the banner advertisement above these elements, your readers are prospective to explore your website less now and in the future.

Reducing the value of other advertising
Lastly, if you are wanting to take part in sponsored posting then the value of these is reduced because of the other advertising on the page. An advertiser is less possible to pay you for an advertisement if you are also showing competing adverts on the same page.

The answer?
For my own blogs, I prefer to only include any banner advertisements where they are relevant in key posts. For an affiliate product, if I want web site wide coverage I will create a key post, link to that from the navigation and put the banner link into the post itself.

But yes, you might quite easily use a banner advertisement on your site, at potentially the price of reducing your readership and advertising from other sources. It is up to you what works best.

Marketing A Local Business-Write Better Blog Articles

Marketing a local business is taking on new forms today. For example, you can promote your local business everyday by writing short useful blog articles that relate to the theme of your small business.

We are not talking about writing Pulitzer Prize quality articles either. Just short, to the point articles your readers would enjoy reading.

Here are 5 tips to help you write better blog articles and then quickly promote them online for your local business.

1. Create a swipe file for ideas for your future articles. These are ideas you get from your customers questions, TV., newspaper, your competitors websites and so on.

Your articles can be anything your readers would find interesting. It has to be worth their time to come back to your blog or to subscribe to your RSS Feed.

2. Do you really understand your audience? Developing a profile of your customer base will help you create short blog articles that fit their profiles.

You always want to write about things from a needs-benefit standpoint. Be sure what you are writing addressing their needs and then keep in mind how it benefits them specifically.

3. Stay on point and keep your articles short. Blog articles only need to be 100-200 words to get your point across. If you find yourself writing more consider breaking it into 2 articles.

As much as you would like to think you are really impressing your readers you can impress them more by valuing their time. Get to the point and wrap it up.

4. Write in a friendly tone. Be conversational and informative. When you are writing to someone like you are talking to them you keep their attention better.

One strategy that does work is avoid using big words that try to impress people. Just write like you talk and you will never have a hard time writing.

5. Proofread your article for spelling and grammar. Microsoft Word is good for this. So is Open Office which is free to download. By just taking a minute to look your article over you can quickly catch mistakes and correct them.

One final point is bookmarking your blog articles to social directories where they can be found. Using a bookmarking tool such as OnlyWire.com is helpful for hitting more directories with one click.

If you are going to bookmark manually try and get your article into your Facebook, Twitter, and Stumbleupon accounts. This is where the people are hanging out online today. Facebook has over 400 million members and building a friends list is easy to do.

So is building a followers list on Twitter. Bookmarking to Stumbleupon is quick and you can choose the category for your blog article to be placed in.

These are 5 points on marketing a local business by writing better blog articles and taking that extra step to successful bookmarking. If you do this on a consistent basis more people will read your articles and the search engines will reward you as well.

Blogging Benefits For Earning Money On The Net.

Recently blogging became the main part of the internet marketing. If you are running a small or a big internet business, blogging will help you improve your online activity, bring more visitors to your site and reach better results promoting your products. Even if you don’t have a website, blogging today became one of the most used quick money making ideas. It is cheap, simple and effective. Many affiliate marketers make a lot of money online using just one blog. You can easily add products, posts to your blog and design it as you like. If you already have a website and you think that blog is not necessary, you are wrong because blogging will help you generate more traffic to your website. You can place links from your blog to the different internal pages of your site and it will send visitors from your blog to your website and backup your pages.

It is easy to drive visitors to a blog. Search Engines love blogs because their content is always fresh. While adding some content to your blog, you can optimize it for the specific queries so that it would be found by Search Engines by these words. Be careful not to overstaff your blog with different products, promotions and offers. Always keep it in your mind that visitors are coming here to look for information and not to be sold. The target is to interest your visitors, make them like your blog and bookmark your page in order to come to visit your blog again. If the readers see big help in your blog, it will be easier for you to make money and promote your internet based home business.

As we mentioned before, Search Engines like blogs and if your content is great and constantly updated, they will drive much targeted traffic to your blog. The other good method to generate more traffic to your blog is to exchange links with other blogs by linking out. Link exchange is one of the most popular traffic generators among bloggers. By exchanging the links, you are exchanging traffic with other blogs. In order to exchange the links, you can send an email to the admin of a blog you desire to exchange your link with or you can link out to the other site with a compliment or a nice review. Seeing this review, the site owner most likely will want to link to you back. Don’t be afraid that your traffic will click out from your blog, it is the part of the game. In exchange you will get traffic from the other sites linked to you.

Don’t underestimate blogging. It may play a huge role in the success of your money making internet business and help you make quick money online.

Getting A Fresh Weblog Listed In The Technorati Register

First, I used to suppose that pinging Technorati works. Don’t bother, they take no notice of pings now! You might as well take away the ping from your website and save the processing time. So what do you do? Here are the stages we have used to quickly get a ranking.

1. Go technorati.com and sign up for an account. Easy. You will have to verify it as normal by clicking an email link, but overall, nothing clever!

2. Find the claim a weblog button. Follow the form for instructions here – enter your site URL and press next, then type in the particulars you find. Don’t submit it just yet!

If you don’t know your RSS feed address, it should be displayed on your weblog somewhere. Just right click and then copy link location to copy it and paste it where it is asked for. If it isn’t displayed somewhere, you are omitted a trick!

3. One of the optional fields is for websites linking back to you. If you have been using FTS or article directories, then you should have some of these. Go to Yahoo and search link:www.yourblog.com and find some web sites linking back to you (forget Google, unless you have a load of links). Copy and paste three of these into the form. I have no idea if it really helps, but the question is there, so in case it does…

4. think up several suitable tags and enter them, plus choose the three categories that match your site the best. Now, check the details and press submit.

Now, they will email you a claim code that you have to put into your site. This seems to be the biggest sticking point for getting listed – positioning this claim token. The problem is here that Technorati seems to do a double check.

First, they spider the website to check the claim token exists and second they look for it in your RSS feed. The second makes sense, as I will explain in a moment. But why then do the first? If both checks used the RSS feed then an error message can be generated. I imagine that this is the reason that lots of claims are failing and why numerous sites are not getting listed. Let me explain more!

The reason to use the RSS feed rather than only spidering the web site is because anyone could place a comment in a weblog, which might include the claim token. You have to be able to update the posts to be able to get it onto the RSS feed.

So what causes the claim problem? Well, a lot of bloggers set the RSS feed to only display a summary, rather than the full post. If the claim token is too far down the post, then it won’t be read by Technorati. Therefore, your site doesn’t get listed properly.

So, when you receive your claim token, create a new post and put the token in the first sentence. I would recommend within the first 30 words at the most. Also, (in WordPress), go to settings, reading and be certain that the RSS feed is giving the entire post. A belt and braces job, but better to make certain. Once you start to see a Authority appearing, you might reset your feed to summary only if you prefer.

After that, you should be ready to get listed. You only need to get other bloggers to mention you in their posts!
