Getting Your Civil Engineering Degree Is Possible

Many students want to find good steady jobs that will help them make a good living and maintain stability in their lives.  They don’t want to be battered about by economic problems and issues they don’t have control over.  They want the ability to be able to put their accredited degree to work right away, and to be able to get a job in their field of choice when they graduate.

That’s why many students are choosing to enter professional fields that have job-specific training and skills.  Professional degree holders, because of their technical background, are often in high demand by employers, because the type of work that people do with a professional degree cannot be taught in on the job training.  A good example of this type of degree is a professional degree in engineering.

A professional engineer will need to hold a bachelors degree to work in an engineering firm.  In order to create and execute projects for clients, they must also hold a license in engineering that is regulated and mandated by the state in which they live.  There are many types of professional engineers, including structural engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and civil engineers.

Civil engineers put together plans and manage projects that are concerned with transportation needs.  These plans and projects include railway lines, airport runways, and highways and roads.  This type of development is crucial to helping our economy improve, because without strong transportation, our national economy would be in even worse shape than it already is.  A new $50 billion infrastructure package that has been recently proposed could help create thousands of new jobs over the next several years by improving the transportation infrastructure of the country as well as online master.

In the next six years, the proposal calls for new transportation projects at nearly every level.  More than 4,000 miles in new and improved rail lines, and over 150,000 in rebuilt and new roadway are planned.  Also included in the project is over 150 miles in newly constructed or improved airport runways.  There will be a strong demand for licensed engineers and engineering technicians to help create and complete this bold initiative.

Civil engineers work closely with a highly trained team that includes civil engineering technicians.  Civil engineering technicians usually complete an associate degree and a certification in their field, which may include a number of important facets of civil projects.  Some certifications in civil engineering include land surveyors, drafting specialists, and CAD (computer-aided design) operators.

Civil engineering is a field that has many applications and types of work available.  People who work in civil engineering may be employed by small professional firms that only operate within a particular region, or in large construction conglomerates that have offices and projects all over the world.  Civil engineering is a field that is highly involved in math and mathematical concepts and thinking.

Students who choose a civil engineering degree also have the ability to start earning at a very competitive salary.  Licensed engineers can begin work after graduation in the $40,000 to $60,000 a year range with a bachelor degree in civil engineering.  The average salary for a civil engineering technician with undergraduate degree is $45,730.  Online college programs, perhaps more than traditional offerings, promote the technology that will be utilized most by these candidates.  This growing field needs those with a mathematical inclination.

Getting The Money You Need For College Through Student Loans

In today’s economy, many online grant students are having difficulties paying their tuition expenses.  It’s well known that tuition and other educational expenses are rising at a much faster rate that the consumer price index.  Having to worry about coming up with extra money to cover these costs can make it very difficult for students to concentrate on their studies.

It’s very common today for students to take out student loans to help finance their education.  The problem with a loan is that is has to be paid back, often starting immediately after graduation.  For students who have had to finance all of their education with loans, interest can increase the bill by thousands and thousands of dollars.

In lieu of student loans, grant money can be a great way to finance distance degree.  A grant gives money for school to eligible students, but it doesn’t have to be repaid, unlike a loan.  Often, a grant can be used for expenses other than tuition, such as rent or transportation, because it is sometimes paid directly to the student.

There are many different kinds of grants for students.  Private industries and organizations fund grants, and so does the U.S. government.  While some grants are given based on a student’s particular financial situation, others may be given based on academic performance or some other facet of a student’s life.

Perhaps the Pell grant is the most popular government grant.  It is awarded based solely on a student’s financial need.  For the first time, the Pell grant can be awarded during the summer semester; the annual stipend is up to $5,550 for qualifying students.

Another area of grant and scholarship money is available to students who perform well academically.  Some schools even forgo tuition from students who have achieved extremely good GPAs and grades.  Although these academic programs are very competitive, students who work hard may find that they are eligible for a variety of grants and scholarships from a number of areas, including educational foundations, alumni foundations, and departments and particular colleges who want to attract top students.

Many professional organizations offer grants to students who want to enter that particular field.  Nursing grants are available from professional nursing organizations, as well as a great number of health care organizations and companies.  The demand for nurses is not likely to lessen any time soon, especially with the aging population of baby boomers who are increasingly needing more and more healthcare.  Aspiring teachers can also apply for grants that are available from educational professional organizations that need to fill their ranks with qualified candidates.  Professions that are science, math, and technology driven also offer grant money in large amounts because of the shortage of people entering those in-demand professions.

No matter which profession a student wants to enter, there is likely a distance degree available to help pay for school.  The great thing about grant money is that it’s free; you can increase your income by applying for and receiving grants while you are in school.  Wouldn’t it be great to reduce your student debt load, or even eliminate it completely, with the help of grants?

Online Degrees Enable You To Go Far

For many students, the college, university or technical school experience wouldn’t be the same without opportunities for discovery. There are students who want to achieve breakthroughs in medicine, and others who simply want to improve the world in which we live. Research grants might help on line degrees students enrolled in bachelor’s degree or graduate programs work toward goals such as these.

The federal government as part of a reinvestment act more commonly known as stimulus money is providing colleges, universities and technical schools with research funding for a variety of studies. In Florida, a publication known as Florida Trend in July reported on a student who is traveling to Antarctica with stimulus money for a collaborative climate change study. In Massachusetts, the Boston Herald this same month told of a university that was awarded almost $130 million in federal research money. The money, provided over the past year, is to be used to for researching everything from computer security to the history of the earth’s crust, the Boston Herald article noted.

A university in Nebraska, on the other hand, is spending some $1.3 million in stimulus money on a state-of-the-art microscope that relies upon electrons rather than light and that’s able to show materials at the near-atomic level, Nanowerk News recently reported. At Johns Hopkins University, 424 stimulus grants totaling $200 million-plus are to allow for researching the universe’s beginnings, the different ways that men and women react to the influenza virus and more, according to the Johns Hopkins University Gazette.

Large foundations and organizations provide research grants as well. Through the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, students working with $15,000 to $30,000 in annual to two-year grants can study the natural and social sciences along with the humanities. The National Endowment for the Humanities also awards research grants– in this instance, for archaeology projects and research that improves our understanding of technology, medicine, science, the social sciences or the humanities.

The environment these days has been a particular concern. Toward this end, many colleges and universities are offering degree programs in sustainability. Programs such as these can help students study environmentally-friendly practices such as renewable energy. Degree programs like the accredited distance learning degree mentioned above might lead to careers in solar and wind energy that are becoming more commonplace.

Whether in on-campus or online degree programs, students can work toward eco-friendly careers in fields such as environmental engineering or architecture. Within these fields, they can work on projects that become Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified. This qualification demonstrates a commitment to sustainable design practices. Students researching these fields may find that they can apply for college grants to help them with their studies. As an example, The Washington Post recently reported that such funding was being given to students who chose to research environmental issues as part of their degree program.

Individuals who study at schools online may also be able to take advantage of research opportunities. They can complement their online degree program with perhaps one or two research-based courses at a local campus. This will give them the chance to meet staff and incorporate a hands-on approach to their program.

With tuition, fees and study materials, a college, university or technical school education can no doubt get expensive. Students can certainly be encouraged by knowing money is available to help them on their path to university distance learning degree. In addition to their own fulfillment, students who embark upon research with the help of grants might even solve modern-day dilemmas and help future generations in some way.

The Right Degree Is Just Around The Corner

After a studio green lights a new cartoon movie, TV series or video game, the first thing they do is assign a supervising director. Two of the first people with their online college this director then hires are a storyboard artist and story editor.

Now one might think that being both of the jobs has the word “story” in them, that they are very similar jobs. That really isn’t so. The two do entirely different things with a story, and some directors actually will work only with one and not the other.

A story editor is a person who is an experienced scriptwriter. He has superlative writing skills, but also excellent communications and leadership ability. One responsibility is to flesh out a project’s basic concept into a “bible.” He then hires scriptwriters to write the script. He must read and edit the submissions not only for entertainment value, but to insure it conforms to the bible as well as standards and practices.

As implied before, story editors started as scriptwriters. To enter the profession, the best way is to go to an online college for the right Online Graphic Design & Multimedia Degrees or brick-and-mortar counterpart with a good reputation for writing. From there, it’s a matter of submitting script ideas and hoping someone likes what you do, and buys it. From there, sell enough, and one gets the call to edit.

Where editors were writers, storyboarders were animators. An essential course one should always take at a decent animation school is actually storyboarding. They are large pieces of paper or cardboard that is then divided into frames or panels like a comic book. The storyboard artist draws the key scenes into those various panels, with the idea that they will then be turned into what’s called an animatic.

Storyboard artists almost always are people who were animators. By this stage in their career, they usually know how to choreograph an action sequence, figure out when to go for a close up or pan, what camera angle and much more…and express all that in the storyboard. It should be noted that there are directors who don’t believe in scripts, too. They just develop the storyboards, get a green light and start producing.

It should always be remembered that working in animation is almost always work-for-hire. That means when the story editor and storyboard editor has landed their next job, they are already fishing for their next one. While they are working, the pay can be quite good. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says both professions can make over $100,000 a year. What’s critical is not only who they work for, but where and on what kind of project.

Yet there is one other important perk to being an editor or storyboarder, and that is the pro is now one stop away from being either a director, or even better, a creator. They now know how to manage personnel and stories. If they make the right impression, the next they may be doing is hiring their own story editors and storyboard artists with the right online course.

The Right Degree Is Just Around The Bend

They are some of the least recognized personnel by the general public, but at the same time some of the most respected inside the animation profession. These people are layout and background artists with their science degrees.

To understand their job, one must realize one animation cell can easily be divided into three separate layers. The first is foreground, where most of the characters and action are set. Then there’s the mid-ground, where secondary action takes place. Finally there’s the background, which is an almost completely different field in its own right.

For example, look at an animated fight scene. In the foreground will be the principle fighters and their props. In the middle ground one will find supporting characters and such. The background often is the setting in which the fight is taking place. A layout artist using a house will have a very different sequence than one using a street corner or a sport arena. Replacing that one background completely changes the context.

In many ways, the layout design dictates what action takes place. Going back to that fight, you want a character in the foreground to either jump over, slide under, run around or even pick up a table in front of it, not run through it (unless it happens to be a ghost). Because of things like this, the layout artist usually reports directly to the episode director.

There are many different roads towards becoming a layout artist. The one thing all have in common is a love of painting, whether it’s in pen and ink, acrylics or even generated by computers. The best layout artists should also understand the principles of animation, so an understanding of things like choreography and character design helps. .

In regards to higher education, a layout artist can get employed with a solid technology degree online. It would be a good idea to find a physical campus or online college that also offers animation courses, so one can refine one’s understanding of the process. After that, most layout artists usually get a job as an assistant at a studio, refining their craft under a master, sometimes called a “rough,” layout artist.

When one lands an assistant’s job, the average salary usually is around $25,000 a year. The average layout salary for experienced personnel is double, at $50,000 a year. If one gets to be a master, or “rough” layout artist, it’s not unheard of to make over $100,000 or more. Like everything else in the entertainment field though, it should be remembered that all work is for-hire. When the project’s done, it’s time to upgrade the portfolio.

It’s not impossible for a layout artist to eventually end up a director, too with the proper Online Programming Degrees. One of the greatest of all times was Maurice Noble, who did the backgrounds and layouts of the Roadrunner cartoons for Chuck Jones. He became an award-winning director himself. Also, layout artists can move on to painting and other forms of art, even getting gallery exhibitions on their own.
