Organizations, businesses, institutions, and the like need a balanced scorecard in order to function like a well-oiled machine. For those of you who do not know what a balanced scorecard is, it is a tool for managing strategic performance. It is used to measure whether the operational activities of a company are bent on achieving its objectives in terms of its visions and missions.

A balanced scorecard, because of its nature, helps provide a really comprehensive view of any organization. Because of this, it is able to help organizations be able to work properly towards their goal or their goals which would really be able to help them in a positive way in terms of their long-term interests and plans. It can be used practically in any organizational setting.

Nowadays, organizational or business consultants are advising their clients to measure not only their monetary gains or losses but also, the factors that lead to them. This is done best through a balanced scorecard. Measuring an organization’s performance this way provides a more in-depth perspective on how it is doing and, at the same time, enable its leaders to do organizational planning that would really create a better and more lucrative atmosphere in all its aspects. Some examples of these factors are learning development, skills development, process performance, market penetration, market share, and the like.

A balanced scorecard is seen as a must since the success of organizations are not supposed to just be measured by financial measures only. It is able to make organizations also be able to measure the different areas wherein the intervention of management is feasible. As its name implies, it aims to achieve a certain degree of balance in all the departments so that the different departments can perform in harmony, hence, making the organization a successful one if not at all times, then most of the time.

The implementation of the balanced scorecard have different processes that needs to be undergone. In total, there are four (4) processes to have it implemented successfully. They are the following:

1. The process of translation of the visions of the organization into realistic goals.

2. The process of communication of the vision and, at the same time, assigning different key individuals roles in order to be able to achieve different goals that would, eventually, lead to one, that is, the goal of success.

3. The process of planning.

4. The process of learning and, at the same time, gaining and giving feedback that would work for the good of the individuals in the organization and the organization as a whole.

Being able to achieve the four (4) processes involved in a balanced scorecard would really be able to propel an organization to success. Those who are not using it yet should go ahead and consult an expert about the best way of having it implemented.
